Over 400 of The Manchester College’s students from campuses across the city will be exhibiting an array of creative disciplines such as art and design, jewellery, fashion, graphics, interior design, performing arts, music, photography and media. Many students will be progressing to higher education at institutions such as Camberwell College of Arts, London College of Fashion, Manchester Metropolitan University, Salford University and The Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts, whilst others are progressing onto a range of foundation degrees at the college.
A few examples of the fascinating exhibitions:
· Yana Simakova's fashion designs which are based on building materials such as metals and plastics. Her work is very futuristic and reminiscent of Barbarella. Yana is progressing to study fashion in London. · Anthony Long's animated film depicts the bizarrely intriguing and surreal world of the late night supermarket as seen through the eyes of a child. · Nell Boxall's theme of Hidden and Forgotten Places in Manchester combines vintage clothes with images of derelict and hidden architecture. She has discovered an alternative Manchester with back alleys reminiscent of Chicago. · Caroline Greenlees' work is based on the home. Is it a place of comfort and security or one of fear, phobia and confinement? She explores the contents of drawers and cupboards. · ‘As You Like It’ an update of Shakespeare’s classic made by the British Youth Film Foundation and featuring students from the college in lead roles including Imogen Dawson and Sam Moran will be shown.
